Adrian Bauman is the Sesquicentenary Professor of Public Health, University of Sydney. He directs the Centre for Physical Activity and Health, co-Director of the Centre for Overweight and Obesity, and co-Director of the Australian Centre for Health Promotion. He has degrees in medicine, public health and epidemiology. His teaching and research interests include physical activity, behavioral epidemiology and health promotion.

His research program focuses on public health approaches to physical activity, with an emphasis on community-wide interventions and their evaluation, measurement and surveillance. He has published more than 300 peer reviewed scientific papers, more than 70 monographs , technical reports and book chapters, and three books. He holds large research grants in physical activity and health, social disadvantage and health, and evaluating health promotion interventions.

He has had a strong interest over several decades in the design and evaluation of mass media and social marketing campaigns, especially those to promote physical activity and health.
