University of Western Ontario Mark speechly is an Associate Professor with the department of epidemiology & Biostatistics at the University of Western Ontatio. He received his Bachelors in honors sociology, Masters in sociology and PhD in Epidemiology & Biostatistics.
Mark’s research interests are:
- Falls Prevention & Injury Epidemiology
- Rehabilitation & Musculoskeletal epidemiology
- Explaining heterogeneity in published research findings
Mark’s primary research projects are:
- Project to prevent falls in veterans. Funded by Veterans Affairs Canada-health Canada. Data analysis and manuscript preparation for fall prevention field trial (Speechley et al) and with graduate students: Physical activity and falling (Dawn Gill, PhD), Cost effectiveness of fall prevention studies (Krista Bray Jenkyn, PhD Cand), Fall risk prediction models (Sue Muir, PhD student), Prescription drugs and fall risk (Shirra Cremer, MSc student).
- Methodological approaches to understanding heterogeneity in systematic reviews: Hip fracture rehabilitation (Anna Chudyk, MSc student), and Stroke rehabilitation (Laura Zettler, MSc student)
- Recent grant: Physician billing costs 3. attributable to ambiguous genetic test results. Cihr ethics law and society. Co-Pi: Dr. Paul Adams.
